Not drowning, but waving

The blog does not have to come down. Nor do I have to stop blogging. I have applied for permission to continue. (Yeah Right).

But here is the rub, any further blogging has to be a lo-cal variety. Any full fat items have to be expunged. Whether they might find themselves elsewhere in the blogosphere is a moot point, but I will not be blogging them myself. So there we have it. It is possible that the response of the political blogosphere has had a significant impact on this. The help and support that I have received from across the spectrum has been truly surprising but most welcome.

So the bottom line, can I blog on a tether? Well we will have to find out won't we.

I thought you were doomed. I read you for the first time yesterday and figured the fascists has prevailed yet again.

Congratulations, I guess, on facing down the new brown shirts. From what I read out of the EU it is readily apparent to me how the whole of Europe fell under the spell of fascism since they appear blind to all aspects of fascism.

I suspect/hope that Europe is working its way toward another 1848 because otherwise, I suspect that the lights are going out across Europe. The place is decivilizing at an accelerating pace.

Who is our Cavour? Who is their Metternich?

Glad you made R4.

Can I ask one thing - any chance of a change to a cursor that changes to indicate when it is over a link.

Just a niggle.

The euro blogosphere is much more interesting with you in it, Gawain.

It is a funny old place Brussels. The line between civil servant and politician seems unusually fuzzy for an old fashioned Northcote-Trevelyan type civil servant like me.

But I never knew that you took the federal shilling. I always thought you were paid by UKIP.

This reminds me a bit of that Stanley Holloway monologue:-

"I heard he were dying."
"I heard he were gone."
"He lukes lak a ghost,
Wi' an overcoat on."

Who'd have thought one blogger could get the EU juggernaut in such a tizzy. They seem to see you as a real threat to the EU's pre-ordained march towards Utopia.

And, in that, I'm not joking.

I once read a book about the hit-list put together by the Gestapo, in the months before Hitler's planned invasion of Britain. These were people who were seen as a real threat to Nazi rule in Britain, and were to be arrested as soon as possible. It included the sort of establishment figures I would have expected - politicians, senior military officers, etc - but it also included people like Carl Giles, the cartoonist. Giles was noted for his irreverent sideswipes at Hitler, Mussolini, and so on.

They didn't mind being hated; that fed their power complex. But they couldn't handle being laughed at - being shown up as merely human. As an early English writer (whose name I have forgotten) once put it:-

"For the Devil, the prowde spirit,
Cannot bear to be mocked."

Bring on the custard pies!
